''Dare to stand out''

PART 1: night time 

Before going to bed 

Too many times we feel shy or insecure because we can't find a straight forward relationship between how we are and how others are. This leads to us feeling odd. What seems normal out there in the world, is not what we feel we are. 

Today's challenge is about changing our perspective about our own oddness.


Instead of looking at oddness as something negative, we will look at it as something incredibly awesome and beautiful. 

I believe that the more that we all aim to become similar to the same thing, the more boring this world becomes. Where is the fun in that?

I personally dream of a world in which we are all allowed to embrace our weirdness, without feeling like we are committing a sin.  

We all come to this world being different in many ways, and at the same time, we also share many similar struggles. We are different and alike at the same time, since the moment we are born. So there is really no need to try to be similar to something that we don't feel identified with, nor to try to stand out - because if we live our own nature, we will automatically stand out. 

This leads to today's journaling session.

Take a pen or pencil and a piece of paper, and get ready to let yourself BE. 


I personally love to create a set-up that I am excited about. For me, this means searching on Spotify for some relaxing meditation music (usually something without lyrics, to not be distracted or biased by them), maybe turning on a candle, getting some tea or coffee, and VERY important, sit comfortably. Find a position that doesn't make your back or neck hurt, so that you can write for as long as you need to. 

Today, I want you to show up as your weirdest and most unique self. Answer the question what is weird about you? When you answer this question, I encourage you to not look at the answer as a negative thing, but more as a unique and maybe even funny thing. Allow yourself to fall in love with your oddness. Imagine that you are the main character of a romantic comedy. Those are never normal people, and that's what makes them so charming. They always have some secret weird characteristics that makes us fall in love with them. Allow yourself to be that charming weirdo, and also include in your journaling: what would you feel if you loved your weirdness?

When you are done writing, come back here and read the following.


Now that you have finished journaling, take some time to acknowledge yourself for being brave enough to do this activity. 


Put your hands on your chest, take 3 deep breaths and say thank you. 


Your weirdness and oddness are the most beautiful gifts that you were given. Remove the negative connotation from the word ''odd'', and notice what an incredible unique human being you are. In order to stand out, you only need to stop hiding. Living in your nature will take you way further than anything else.


Now, put what you wrote somewhere safe, because you will need it tomorrow morning :) 


For tomorrow morning.


Tomorrow, we will do some visualisation and meditation. All together, this will take 15min. However, save yourself some extra 15min to read the instructions.


In total, expect to use 30min of your morning. 


I know. You may have to wake up a little earlier than usual, but trust me, it will be worth it.

Good morning friend! 


Today we continue with our challenge, and it's time for some visualisation minutes. This exercise is quite simple and fun, but it is very effective. 

I want you to take out what you wrote yesterday in your journaling session, and take some time to read through it.


Continue reading below, after you are done reading your writing.


Now, read the next paragraph until the end, and then follow the instructions in it. 


Put on some relaxing/meditation music, set your timer to 5 minutes and close your eyes. I want you to use these minutes to allow yourself to be happy about who you are already. I want you to bring back to live the joy that you felt when you were a careless little kid who didn't care about any of the things other people said or thought. I want you to imagine yourself being your most unique and authentic self. Not only embrace your weirdness, but also love it. 


When you are done, come back here for your meditation session.


For this activity, you can keep the same music that you used for your visualisation exercise.


In today's meditation, we will reinforce yesterday's meditation intention: practicing awareness of our thoughts.


For this, instead of overwhelming ourselves with too many different meditations, we will repeat yesterday's meditation.


The aim of this, is to become more familiar and comfortable with the practice.


You will notice how the same meditation can lead you to completely different places in different moments. Your brain is constantly processing information from millions of sources, therefore your inner screen will never be exactly the same.


Now, read the next paragraph until the end, and then follow the instructions in it. 


Put on some relaxing/meditation music, set your timer to 10 minutes and close your eyes. In this meditation session, I want you to imagine that you are sitting in a dark movie theater with a big screen in front of you. In this screen, you will see the movie that your brain in creating for you. In the next 10 minutes, you will sit or lay down, to watch the story that your brain is directing. Keep in mind that in the following 10 minutes, your consciousness and your brain will be separate from each other. Your brain is the director of the movie - meaning that your brain is the thought generator, and you are the spectator that is watching that movie - meaning you are the observer of the thoughts generated by your brain. Sometimes you will want to take the role of the director so much, that you will believe that you are it. But this is actually not true. You think that it is true, because that is what you have believed your entire life. You are not your brain. You are so much more than that, and today - you will see that. So with no judgement towards your thoughts, just relax and enjoy the movie. In the following days we will work on our ability to deal with our brain and our thoughts. But today, just allow yourself to watch the movie.

during your day

Stay authentic

Well done! Your morning practice is done and I am so proud of you. 


Now, I will just ask you to do one thing during the day:


Stay authentic. You know who you really are. You know who you enjoy being. You know exactly who you need to be to feel energised. You know, because you have been this person before, but some invisible force has slowly turned that light off. Today, bring back that person and don't trade it for some personality that you never wanted. Stay you. 


I will ask you to set 3 reminders in your phone throughout your day. Maybe one at 11.00am, another at 1.00pm and another at 3.00pm, but this is completely up to you.


At these times, take 3 deep breaths, and then say to yourself:


''My weirdness is the most beautiful and powerful thing that I have. I not only accept it but also love it and honour it. I am more than allowed to bring my weirdness to life. I owe it to myself. I don't need to try to stand out. This will naturally come, as I dare to become who my soul already is. Today, I choose to dare.''
